The timing of finding out about this movie was great. I am a member of Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida and arrange get togethers from time to time for special sporting events for fellow members. This past March for the NCAA finals I organized a Brooklyn Style streetball tournament. I found my original stickball bat (with electrical tape and all) and had one of my sons Fedex me two dozen Spaldeens from Modells sporting goods in NYC (sticker shock set in,,, I remember these at 25 cents each). We had 32 guys show up to play and we played multiple variations of 2, 3 and 5 box baseball as well as hit the penny and stickball. Some guys knew the games and many had to be taught however everyone left a fan of the games. Ages ranged from 25 to 74. My only regret was striking out twice in the stickball games (I was a three-sewer guy once upon a time).
Thrilled to see this grouping keeping those memories alive.
I have included below a copy of the email I had sent to my fellow members inviting them to the NCAA and Stickball event.
Hi Michael.....I am so sorry that I did not know about the tournament at the Country Club....I too live in Boca,,,and would have loved to share in the fun....I still feel like my head is 16!!!!! I was one of the lucky people who practically lived on the streets back in the fifties...and it was paradise...and I am forever grateful that I lived there....I still have my girlfriends who played Russian 7 Stoopball...and Hit the Penny, and Potsie...One is here, the other in Queens, coming here very soon....Please let me know of these great events in the future...Thanks, Marlene (brightwatermama@aol.com)
